Course Outline

"I am so bored with cover music! I want to do my originals, but then I can’t get work! What do I do?"

We will discuss methods of arranging your music to satisfy everyone:

Be realistic, if you want to work regularly, the greater percentage of your sets will have to be cover music, HOWEVER, there is a way to spark your creativity and still make the audience happy with recognizable songs.

We will discuss how to:

• Add you own distinctive style to the music
• Putting sets together from one popular artist
• Morph songs from one to another in creative fashion
• Usage of dynamics and musical “surprises

Other set construction techniques discussed such as:

• Sizing up your audience ahead of time
• Single acts verses bands – different set arrangements
• Type of venue – Dance & Drink verses a seated viewing crowd
• Song balancing
• How to handle audience requests – especially when you don’t do the song!
